People with Trich

First and formost, my advice to people with Trich is that no matter how impossible it may seem, you CAN overcome trichotillomania, to an extent.
Though nobody knows if it’s possible for Trich to ever completely go away, many many sufferers have been “pull-free” for a very long time. If you try and try again, and put forth effort and time and believe in yourself, you can progress immensely. You can make the best of this habit, and it doesn’t have to rule your life. It’s your choice. Sometimes, the way I think of it is that there are so many other problems that you could potentially have, that trich is a just a little thing. Just be happy you’re you.

Talking to Parents
Parents are definitely an effecting component of having Trich. And lots of times, talking to them is extra tough....but it doesn’t have to be! One thing you can do to strengthen your Trich relationship with your parents is to be open to talking to them about how you’re doing. Tell them your strengths and weaknesses, tell them what you like them to do and what you don’t like. Just sit down and have a nice conversation...because if the communication is good and goes both ways...both thumbs are up in making progress! Talking to Others
It’s really your decision who you want to know about your habit. It may be hard to keep from some people (if your pulling dramatically effects your appearance), and in that case you have to decide how much you want to tell them. I’ve found the best thing to say is that you have a hair-pulling habit called Trichotillomania (you may have to say it twice) and it’s a hair pulling disorder that isn’t a disease, it’s just something you have. People will react differently, some may be interested, others dismiss the idea, some may think it’s weird, etc... No matter what, whatever they think shouldn’t effect you! Talking to others and INFORMING is wonderful if you’re up for it...the more people who know about Trich the better!
